LED light sources such as liquid crystal displays and lighting are everywhere in life, bringing people a comfortable living environment and visual enjoyment. At the same time, due to long-term dependence on this artificial light, people have gradually recognized and paid more and more attention to the health hazards of LED-excited HEV. Excessive blue light from LED lamps may cause structural damage to the retina and visual fatigue. Blue light can penetrate the lens, causing macular degeneration or cataracts. Especially in children, whose lenses are relatively clear and cannot effectively block blue light, they are more likely to cause macular degeneration and cataracts. Numerous studies have shown that excessive blue light can affect circadian rhythms. There is a third type of photoreceptor cells on the retina of the human eye, which are responsible for regulating non-visual effects other than body vision, such as the function of managing time, coordinating and controlling the rhythm and amplitude of people's activities in different periods of time. The wavelength of blue LED is around 450nm, which is consistent with the human body's circadian rhythm/biological clock. Blue light stimulates ipRGcs to produce signals that prevent the body from releasing melatonin. Melatonin is closely related to our circadian rhythm cycle and affects sleep. An important hormone, numerous studies have proven that blue light can cause decreased sleep quality, insomnia and depression.
